The Making of Star Wars - 1977

The story behind the making of "Star Wars: A New Hope", the 1977 epic film which launched one of the most successful sagas of all time.

This TV special, the first ever Star Wars documentary, was hosted by C-3PO and R2-D2 and narrated by William Conrad, with appearances by George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

Full title: "The Making of Star Wars ...as told by C-3PO and R2-D2".

Originally aired on September 16, 1977, on ABC.

Star Wars SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back

This is a television documentary special which originally aired on CBS on September 22, 1980. Hosted by actor Mark Hamill, it is a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the special effects (SP FX) in the second Star Wars film, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, which was released that year. The special was written by Richard Schickel and directed by Robert Guenette, who had both previously worked on the 1977 special The Making of Star Wars.

A 1984 documentary on special effects for "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "Explorers", "Return of the Jedi", and "2010". The section in particular on how they did the 150 ships battle scene in Jedi shows just how much manual work went into the shot (it took months).
